Phillip Eugene Barker passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 1, 2016, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Phil was born in Stockton, California, on August 19, 1933 to Charles Roy and Margaret Ellen (Geary) Barker. Phil was a proud graduate of the Central High School class of 1951, after which he attended Mesa Junior College.
When his selective service number was called, Phil enlisted in the US Navy. After separation from the Navy, Phil attended the University of Alabama where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
Phil used his engineering degree to work in various manufacturing and aerospace industries, including Goodyear and Redman Industries. He was also involved with the Apollo moon shot.
Phil is survived by his brother, Gordon Barker of Grand Junction; and a sister, Carol Pippenger of Grand Rapids, Michigan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his little buddy, Rowdy.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at the Veterans Cemetery of the Western Slope at 10:00 a.m. Phil was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1955.
